Green Juicing With Youth To The People

5 minute read

If you ever find yourself walking down Venice Beach, you'll probably see people rollerblading with a green juice in hand. Green juicing is an integral part of West Coast, L.A. culture. Although it's a trend the rest of the country pokes fun at West Coasters for, people who drink green juice feel better and look better—especially when it comes to skin health.

Inspired by the health benefits of green juicing and the fast-paced lifestyle of most young people, Youth To The People, a 100% vegan skin care line, has built a brand around "superfoods" and making aging an elegant process, rather than something to avoid and be fearful of. It's a juice cleanse—but for your face!

With all this talk about "superfoods," you may be wondering, what's so special about it anyway?

Alternatively called the "food for your face" trend, superfoods (like kale and spinach) have antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that work wonders for both skin and body. These ingredients provide hydration, reduce inflammation, and combat environmental toxins. Now, that's pretty awesome.

Origins Of Youth To The People

Youth To The People was founded in 2015 by cousins Greg Gonzalez and Joe Cloyes. Now, the brand has come to be known for its superfood ingredients, minimalistic and sustainable product packaging.

As third-generation skin care entrepreneurs, being a family-owned business is essential to the brand's identity. Gonzalez and Cloyes were essentially born with natural skin care in their veins. When Gonzalez and Cloyes were young, their grandmother, Eva Freiderichs, owned her very own professional-grade skin care line named 'Eva's Esthetics.'  Freiderichs is known for being one of the pioneers in bringing natural and botanical ingredients over to America, where she also launched one of the very first skin institutes.

After her passing, Eva handed on the business to mothers Lori and Lisa, who both act as mentors to the men to this day.

Now the cousins' rendition of skin care, Youth To The People, revolves around anti-aging. The ingredient they cultivate is leafy greens, such as kale, spinach, or other greens that you would find in an L.A. juice bar. Other standout ingredients include açaí, goji, jojoba, sunflower oil, green tea, and the list goes on.

Transparency In Ingredients and Packaging

On top of using ingredients that are actually pronounceable, Youth To The People's packaging is equally as important to the brand.

Gonzalez designed the recyclable packaging himself, including the jars and the boxes. He was inspired by the common aesthetic of the clear ingredient list found in many trendy juice bars. When browsing their Youth To The People products, each glass container or bottle is clear with bold black or white lettering, which allows the vibrant colors of the product to shine.

This Instagram-friendly visuals and design have proven to be especially popular among the 25 and under crowd, albeit an uncommon demographic for anti-aging products! However, millennials are hyper-aware about what they put into their bodies and onto their skin. Their target demographic also value transparency as it corporate accountability is becoming more prevalent in consumer decision making.
