We Tried Mango People, Here's What We Thought

6 minute read

Makeup is SO awesome.

It's one of those things that lets us spend time with our skin and explore a different side of ourselves through artistic expression. With fun colors, funky designs, and cool tools - makeup truly makes our skin feel like a canvas, and we like the artist.

We never want to sacrifice a good skin care routine for makeup and vice versa, so why not try out the rising makeup-infused skincare trend! Yup, it's a thing, and now more than ever, brands are working overtime to pump out products that are not only glorious makeup products but work wonders for your skin too!

One brand, in particular, has caught our eye! Say hello to Mango People Official (Mango People), the cosmetics brand that's turning skincare into makeup!

The Mango People Story

Mango People was founded on the principles of transparency in ingredients by Sravya Kalaynapu, a South Asian woman. Kalaynapu's inspiration behind Mango People comes from the constant struggle of not finding the perfect product to match your lifestyle choices and beauty preferences.

I hope for the brand to be a place for equal representation, sustainability and transparency within the industry - Sravya Kalaynapu

Using Ayurvedic teachings, Kalaynapu began experimenting with elements in nature such as fruits and flowers (i.e., cherries and hibiscus) to create flattering pigments for all skin shades. The Mango People shop consists of the Multistick, Highlighter, and Bronzer.

The brand is right up our alley, and we'd been seeing it blowing up all over Instagram and TikTok.

So We Tried Mango People, and Here's What We Thought

Hello everyone, Kiran here (TFSE Editorial Staff) with my Mango People order and a review of some of their luscious products. My roommates and I were super excited to get our package, made of recycled cardboard and stuffed with little sparkles of cardboard paper!

The first thing to catch my eye was definitely the color full and fruity box holding the sticks. Once we got past the fun box, we saw the products. Held within a plastic tube — smooth and matte to the touch — were the exciting pigments of pink and brown.

My roommates and I tried:

  • Gulabi - Multistick
  • Chai - Bronzer
  • Dune - Bronzer
  • Jaipur - Multistick

The Multisticks

Gulabi, $24

The multisticks are a multifunctional color product formulated with natural and organic ingredients meant to wash over your eyelids, lips, and cheeks.

The application instructions are simple: Apply directly from the tube, using a brush, or, for a natural flush of color, use the warmth of your fingertips to blend the color into your skin.

Gulabi, literally meaning Rosy or Pink, is one of those rare shades that provides a subtle yet buildable pop of pink wherever you need it. On the eyes, it'll make you look like a bubblegum dream and, on the cheek, a rosier hue to bring that natural flush back to the skin.

Jaipur, $24

Again within the pink family, the Multistick Jaipur is as vibrant as the city itself. Jaipur is a brighter pink that sits on the skin like rose petals themselves. It'll have you feeling and looking summer-ready in no time!

Key Ingredients: Candelilla Wax, Olive Oil, Mango Seed Butter, Sesame Seed Oil, Ashwagandha Oil, Cherry, and Hibiscus.

The Bronzers

Chai, $24

The Mango People bronzers are multifunctional bronzers that add a natural sun-kissed look to whatever look you're pulling off. They can also contour the highlighted areas of the face for a deeper contour finish and are formulated with adaptogens to shield and calm the skin from external stressors and exhaustion.

Again, the application instructions are simple:

  1. Apply directly from the tube at the hollows of your cheekbones, hairline, and jawline.
  2. Use a contour brush to blend for a seamless look.
  3. Layer on for an intense contoured result.
  4. For a monochromatic bronzed look, use on lips and eyelids.

Chai is one of those shades closely likened to the drink itself: a rich red-brown shade and even smells a bit like the chai spices and looks amazing on the skin. Sunkissed is what is promised and delivered with this bronzer.

Dune, $24

A shade darker than Chai, Dune perfectly embodies its name meaning when it comes to pigmentation. A sandy shade with a kiss of burnt sun, Dune castes a fiery orange evening over your cheeks, lids, and lips.

Key Ingredients: Ashwagandha, Triphala, Gotu Kala - Powerful healing plants and herbs used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. By applying adaptogens on the skin, our largest organ can protect and calm the skin from external stress and exhaustion.

Overall Thoughts

We are obsessed with the idea behind the brand, the products are great, and the fact that they are multifunctional and multi-use makes them a staple for a go-to in a makeup routine.

It's like getting kissed by fresh fruits every time you go to apply them — it reminds me of when my mom comes into my room with a plate of freshly cut fruit.

I think it's safe to say that we've officially become Mango People.
